About Humanist Society of Victoria

Helping people live ethical and fulfilling lives free from religion

The Humanist Society helps people live ethical and fulfilling lives free from religion.

Our flagship initiative, the Humanist Companioning Program, trains volunteers to provide friendship and companionship to people experiencing loneliness and social isolation. A regular conversation, a shared cup of tea, or simply knowing someone cares can make an enormous difference to a person’s wellbeing.

We also help people navigate life’s biggest moments with compassion and dignity. We maintain Victoria’s largest directory of non-religious celebrants for weddings, funerals and other life ceremonies, and provide practical information about end of life planning, grief support and voluntary assisted dying through links to trusted independent organisations.

Alongside these services, we bring people together through talks, workshops and community events that encourage thoughtful discussion, friendship and lifelong learning.

Cost: Our end of life planning service is paid, everything else is free.

Volunteer: Yes, primarily for our companioning program.
