Lendlease has proposed a new 76.6 metre building above the Metro Tunnel site. The current plan allows for 10 storeys, but Lendlease is now seeking approval for 16, well above the 40 metre height restriction currently in place for the area.
The extra height would overshadow many Flinders Street buildings.
We were given a very tight window to provide feedback on the proposal, but we’ve made sure our voice was heard and have submitted a response.
Our CEO, Michael Griffiths, was asked to comment on the proposal. “It seems like Lendlease can’t make enough money off the original design and so has said it needs to add in a lot more levels,” Griffiths said. “I’m not sure it’s the best way to make policy decisions and why the people of Melbourne should be wearing it.”
